Description
This climb series ride is offered up as a northern alternative to the very popular Emigration climb. It’s a bit shorter and steeper but with roughly the same vertical gain as the Emi climb from the Church Start. The ride is an out-n-back starting from the Mountain Green Sinclair Station up Trappers Loop Road to the Snowbasin access road and to the East Fork Overlook. The vehicle traffic on Trappers Loop Road can be heavy at times and there’s no dedicated bike lane. The good news is its two lanes up and the shoulder on the return is mostly smooth with no rumble strip. For safety, a blinky tail-light and high-visibility clothing are recommended. The turn-around is at the East Folk Overlook (info sign). The reward is the view at the overlook and the 6-mile descent averaging 7% down Trapper’s Loop Rd. A word of caution: At mile 9.6 into the ride there’s a sweeping S-turn with a -10.8% grade. I recommend taking the full lane of travel here and feather-braking to control your max speed.
