PLEASE NOTE: The RideWithGPS.com website often exaggerates the accumulated climbing; so please don’t be deterred by what that site says about the climbing. The Zion Gran Fondo starts and finishes at the Springdale Town Park located at 126 Lion Boulevard in Springdale. Generally speaking, the route is a lollipop-shaped course starting in Springdale, UT at the Town Park on Lion Boulevard. From there you’ll ride out to Highway 9 and take that about 20 miles then turn right only UT-17. You’ll ride through Toquerville then hang a right on Old Highway 91 and pass through Leeds on your way to UT-318 and Quail Creek State Park. Then you’ll hang a left on Highway 9, and make your way to Sand Hollow Road where you’ll do ride a beautiful loop about Sand Hollow Reservoir and into Hurricane. Then you’ll take Highway 9 back to Springdale. It’s 77 miles for the main course, with about 3,800′ of climbing. For those who want to make it a full century, after checking in at the finish line and enjoying some refreshments, you’ll do the “bonus miles” into Zion National Park. You’ll ride a lovely bike path to Zion Canyon Road, and do the out-and-back to the Temple of Sinawava. You can refill your water bottles at the end of the road before heading back. We highly recommend the bonus miles. It’s a gentle climb into the park, and mostly downhill all the way back! If you don’t already have a National Parks Pass or a Zion Pass, you can buy one at the gate for $12. It’s good for a week.
Meet at: Start / Finish Location: Springdale Town Park located at 126 Lion Boulevard, just past the Town Hall and Community Center.
